Wellbeing
Student wellbeing at Tempe High develops in students attitudes of respect, responsibility, and relationships within our school community. Our school supports the personal, social and learning needs of our students and ensures their safety within an inclusive learning environment. Student wellbeing is reflected in the way we demonstrate care and provide opportunities for our students to be actively connected to their learning. Our students have positive and respectful relationships and enjoy a sense of belonging to their school and community. This is shown in the quality of our curriculum, which promotes connection, success and the opportunity to thrive.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.
We do this through:
- teachers who help students feel welcome and included
- access to school counsellors, school psychologists and specialist staff
- programs that support health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour including GRIT, programs and the Gender Sexuality Alliance
- transition support for students who are new or changing year levels including a peer support program
- clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- staff who get to know each child and work closely with families
- developing health care plans for students
- open communication about wellbeing and support.

Tempe High School is a Growing Resilience in Our Teens (GRIT) high school and is currently implementing this program across all cohorts. GRIT is based on the Resilience in Our Teens (RIOT) program created by psychologist Michael Hawton and facilitated by Parentshop. The program is a whole school community approach to building resilience, identifying anxious thoughts, and teaching students how to respond to them effectively. The motto for the program is 'Give it a Go' and encourages students to develop the confidence and bravery to attempt difficult challenges or tasks.
All teachers at the school have undertaken professional development in the program and learnt strategies involved in creating a cohesive support network for students in and outside of the classroom. If you would like to learn more about the program, please get in touch with the school.
YSafe Australia is the E-Safety partner of Tempe High School. YSafe collaborates with Tempe High School to deliver E-Safety presentations to both students and parents of our Tempe community.
YSafe Student Workshops
Student presentations provide our students with invaluable information, enabling them to be informed consumers and protect themselves online. The workshops are designed to complement Tempe High School’s whole-school BYOD program and further assist our students in becoming responsible digital citizens.
YSafe Parent Workshops
YSafe’s parent presentations provide our parents with invaluable knowledge and skills to assist their children in navigating the online world. Additionally, our Tempe community are given unique access to the YSafe Online Portal.
Parents and students can access ySafe via our portals page.
