EXTRACURRICULAR MUSIC ENSEMBLES 2019
Rehearsals are held before school 7.45 - 8.45am
Cost of joining Tempe’s Extracurricular Music Ensemble Program is $240* per year (regardless of the number of ensembles)
Wind Ensemble
Tempe High School’s Wind Ensemble is for students with considerable band experience. Wind Ensemble students are expected to continue having private lessons for their instrument and to practice regularly in their own time. Auditions are held in term 1 and require scales, a set piece, prepared piece and sight reading.
Concert Band
Tempe High’s Concert Band is for students with limited band experience, learning a new instrument, changing instruments or students commencing private tuition. Concert Band students are expected to have private tuition for their instrument and practice regularly in their own time. Entry to Wind Ensemble from Concert Band is by audition only.
In term 4 each year Tempe High School runs a Band Tour which is by invitation only dependant on attendance and participation in rehearsals and concerts.
Jazz Band
The Jazz Band provides an opportunity for Concert and Training Band students to expand their repertoire and learn some jazz skills. Entry to Jazz Band is by invitation only, and is available to concert and training band students, and choir.
Strings Ensemble
Tempe High School Strings Ensemble is for students who receive private tuition in violin, cello, viola and double bass. Tempe High School Strings provides an opportunity for strings players to play in an ensemble with other students.
Ukulele Orchestra
The Ukulele Orchestra is for students who would like to experience playing in an ensemble and learning ukulele. No experience is necessary for this ensemble, only a positive attitude and strong practice ethic.
Choir
The Tempe High School Choir is an all-inclusive ensemble for interested vocalists and musicians. No experience is necessary. In 2018 the choir performed as part of the Schools Spectacular Secondary
Combined Choir
* Some scholarships are available. Tempe extra-curricular music ensembles are available to all interested and committed students regardless of financial position. Please contact us if you are having payment difficulties or would like to make alternative payment arrangements
* Tempe High School Music Ensembles are invited to perform at local festivals and band
competitions which may fall on the weekend or weeknights.
* Concert blacks (long black pants, black shirt and shoes) are required for some performances
