Mathematics

The mathematics faculty at Tempe High School is committed to excellence and student success, particularly in preparing students for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations and numeracy in the real world. Their emphasis on individual growth ensures students excel in their chosen level of mathematical studies. With experienced and skilled staff leading the way, the faculty creates a supportive environment for both teaching and learning.

Stage 4

In Years 7 and 8, we prioritise numeracy and working mathematically in line with the school's plan. Utilising Newman's analysis and group work, students engage in work mathematically, enhancing their problem-solving skills collaboratively.

Support from both learning support and Year 10 peer tutors ensures students of all abilities receive support.

The annual Luna Park excursion for Year 8 students adds an exciting extension to their mathematics studies.

All Tempe High School students have access to the IXL online platform further supports their learning by providing additional resources for practice and reinforcement.

In Years 9 and 10, we focus on students making connections across mathematical concepts to enhance each student’s ability to understand the purpose of learning mathematics and to develop a deeper conceptual understanding.

The Tempe High School mathematics faculty ensures students are placed in the appropriate Stage 5 course, setting the foundation for their academic trajectory.

A select 25-30 students are invited into the accelerated mathematics class based on their performance in assessments during Year 8. This elective course caters to students who demonstrate advanced abilities in math.

Stage 6 (High School Certificate)

Our HSC Mathematics program offers a comprehensive range of courses tailored to meet the needs of all students:

  • Numeracy or Mathematics Standard 1
  • Mathematics Standard 2
  • Mathematics Advanced
  • Mathematics Extension 1
  • Mathematics Extension 2

We encourage students to choose courses that align with their abilities and aspirations, ensuring their educational journey is fulfilling and conducive to achieving their goals.

In Stage 6, all Tempe High School Students are provided with access to ATOMI, an online platform designed to support their learning in mathematics.
